April 27, 2007

As I read through the book I did not understand many passages but was able to comprehend and translate these couple of lines.

My affections are then most humble, I have no ambition to see a goodlier man. = My affections are humble, I do not want to see any man more handsome than Ferdinand.

My father’s of better nature, sir, than he appears by speech.= My father is not as mean as he seems when he speaks. He is of a better nature.

Then again there were always those lines that I just never understood.

lord how it looks about! Believe me sir It carries a brave form.

whom stripes may move , not kindness,  have used thee.
